Situated amongst the sycamores of Santa Monica Canyon, this mid-1980s modern home was, truthfully, stunning before Lily Spindle set foot in the door, though in need of a well-executed, subtle refresh. The homeowners’ existing art collection, vast and wonderful, created a foundation and philosophy we wholly understood and embraced. Repainting the den in a custom-tinted Roman Clay finish, incorporating a custom-built mahogany Bibliotheque-inspired bookshelf, and bringing a russet red strawberry hue to their dining room walls, we also revitalized their kitchen, using Farrow & Ball’s Purbeck Stone on the cabinet fronts, replacing the hardware with a more elegant shape and finish, and introducing texture and color with a pale blue staggered tile backsplash. Seizing on the power in paint, artfully-chosen colors, patterns and textiles, Lily Spindle delivered a dynamic 21st century reboot to this beautifully personal and idiosyncratic home.
