What’s NOT to love about a 900-sq-ft A-frame in the town of Twin Peaks (!) with mid-century modern style and a love of dogs? Yeah, that’s right. Nothing. Because it’s awesome as all get-out, as judged by our own @toomanyterriers, who stayed at the fabulous @palmstopeaks Airbnb this week with her husband @nedevans and their three terriers. 6000-ft altitude and unbelievable quiet, surrounded by gorgeous trees, and easily accessed WiFi, of course. Because it’s just nuts to conceive of a WiFi-free vacation for Rebecca because the gal really likes her online access. 😁And Apple TV to watch the @worldsmostextraordinaryhomes 🌟

We’ve been fans of @skaynedesigns for a long while now. Her fearlessness with color, pattern, and mixing textiles is laudable, her portraits are mega good fun, and damn she is one of the nicest humans, to boot! This is the entry to her guest house and it feels SO Mediterranean California, we had to share it. Isn’t it incredible?

Shopping where dogs are hanging out is always a good idea. Especially when it’s @modernrugs_la We 💕💕💕 this crew!

Every so often we take a look at @thefilomena and make sure we’re seated first because it’s swoon city, baby. Romantic and sexy and that ceiling is DIVINE and the chairs are MISMATCHED, y’all. Hallelujah! ⠀

Pasadena 💕 love. This was one of the most gratifying jobs, helping this fabulous family of five settle into a new home almost double in size from their last. Needless to say (but we’ll say it anyway), when you move or rebuild or renovate, the previous pieces you’ve been living with oftentimes simply don’t fit. Literally and metaphorically. ⠀

Also, the ingenious repurposing of a chest of drawers into a bathroom vanity is a designer’s dance move we’ve also done and it’s brilliant, if we say so ourselves! Why buy a new vanity when you can reuse something you already own and love?!?

As you know, we’re both East coast gals and summering in Maine or Nantucket was the lucky and lovely past times of Northeasteners. So I guess it’s no surprise architect @gpschafer’s idyllic Maine home is captivating and enchanting and has us dreaming of nights on the porch looking out at the water...surrounded by mosquitoes 🦟 😂. ⠀

True confession: we are BIG fans of velvet. And while it may not be the most dog/cat friendly of fabrics, there are loads of fabulous, cleanable poly blends that have the feel and vibe of velvet but are decidedly more livable on the day-to-day basis. (But don’t even use the word “microsuede” near Rebecca because she will lose her mind and break out in hives simultaneously.)

For awhile, it seemed like everyone and their second cousin twice removed had that ubiquitous IKEA pendant and I wouldn’t blame IKEA for never ever discontinuing the design because it’s GOOD (and less than $70, for heaven’s sake). We saw this dang pendant EVERYWHERE in Los Angeles and its common placement in restaurants, for example, belied its insanely low price point.
The range of pendant designs is incredibly broad, from mid-century modern to bohemian to traditional, and the pricing is equally all over the place. The excellent news is this - you can get a DAMN FINE, sizable, beautiful pendant for less than $500 (and you don’t have to join the IKEA legions to do so). More than half of the 12 black and white pendants we’ve pulled together here fit that under-$500 niche - one is inspired by Japanese teapots, another inspired by an overturned water vessel, another made from two delicate tiers of bent bamboo slats (!!). In the realm of pendants, there’s certainly no shortage of Tom Dixon knock-offs, but we’re pretty much purists when it comes to George Nelson, and the older the better! For the purposes of this blog post, we’ve specifically opted for black and white pendants, but I’m 100% confident we can devote a future post to our favorite rattan, glass, and brass pendants, so stay tuned for another pendant-love post in the future!

French architect @jeanlouisdeniot has a home in Los Angeles he escapes to because he says “Los Angeles has the most beautiful light.” He may be right. There is something vastly different in West Coast light versus East. And having grown up with the latter, neither of us can quite pinpoint the exact disparity in the two coasts and how they glow so differently from one another. Perhaps it’s because we’re meant to be a City of Angels?
