Case Study House No. 8, otherwise known as The Eames House, is an inspiring, magical, incredible architectural and artistic treasure in the Palisades. We were lucky enough to have a private tour of the interior a couple years ago. ⭐️ Did you know that the pace with which they were able to procure materials led them to getting to know this special plot of land intimately over time, having picnics on the lawn and resting under the eucalyptus trees as they awaited building materials? Because of this, in part, they chose to design and build their house in sync with the land itself, following the slope of the property and its natural environs. Charles and Ray were nothing short of BRILLIANT 🙌🏽

Today was cold and windy but in the most fresh, crisp, LA winter way. Dropped some fabric and chairs with our upholsterer in the valley. Witnessed an apathetic Prius driver on the 405 toss plastic trash out his window. Consumed a small loaf of banana bread for lunch while driving from place to place, and as delicious as it was, would’ve preferred proper lunch in a dining room like this Art Deco 1930s apartment in Cape Town. Parquet for dayssssss, people! ⭐️

There are countless things to adore about Marfa, Texas. Add to that exhaustive list the home of arts pioneer Virginia Lebermann, who worked with local artisans to design the space, utilizing local craftspeople and indigenous techniques native to the region in its creation over two years. If this bedroom is any indication, we’d say it was an enormous success. As seen in @elledecor Happy Sunday! 💕

Yes, it’s true that it’s somewhat dodgy in that it can put the work in a relatively unstable environment, but in a powder room, there’s no hot shower or bath steam to unduly affect framed works on paper, so go for it!) As animal fanatics, art lovers, vintage furniture aficionados, diehard problem solvers, and Columbo-level sleuths sans trench coats, we started Lily Spindle with a desire to help people experience beautiful, thoughtful, imperfectly perfect spaces, design attuned to a well-loved life. The two of us have our own particular style and aesthetic in regards to our homes, both of them quite different from one another, but each created with an endless adoration for original art, unusual things, and, well yeah, clearly an unfettered love of animals. .

As Deb said to me recently, what we promote is almost like Kondo-ing things you don’t already possess. We want to help you find joy in things you might not normally come across, not those things widely sanctioned by every DIY and home makeover show, but maybe a mix of the old with the new, the classic with the unconventional… .

Also, BEAUTY INCREASES YOUR JOY. Yep, it reduces your stress and frustrations, improves productivity, lowers your blood pressure, and we’re pretty sure smiling is better for your soul (and the world) than frowning, right? .

Existing in a beautiful space really does change your life, as ridiculous as it may sound. Buy yourself the flowers, the amazing painting, the fantastic dog beds, the gorgeous ceramic bowl, put away the clutter of paperwork, get yourself some good lighting, remove that imposing wall, paint that dark, melancholy room…every single bit of this makes an incredible impact on your life. And we’re insanely grateful to be a part of it. .

Last week, we stopped into one of our most beloved shops in all of Los Angeles - @45threemodernvintage! Not only does Staci have an incredible eye for vintage and contemporary art, but this woman’s collection of lighting is AMAZING. Did we mention she’s also one of the funniest, nicest, warmest people we’ve met not only in the design and decor biz but life in general. Also, the lady does NOT fear color and you KNOW we dig that! #pinkwall

Love that @houseofharper is keeping it both REAL and UNEXPECTED in her entryway. Chinoiserie, leopard, and Wellies. ✨we’d all love our homes to be #Instagrammable at every moment, to be clean, organized, sparkling, beautiful, everything in its place, nothing broken or blemished...but we have animals and children and busy lives and sometimes the sun isn’t out, so our spaces don’t glimmer the way we’d like. But that doesn’t make them any less ours and any less gorgeous.
